sparse, like the trees above the treeline

exhausted. pooped. tired. beat. bone weary. i'm on my second week of my surgery rotation and the schedule is nonstop, the hours are grueling, the residents are mean and last week during our lovely tropical storm, my car filled with water. you are not supposed to have to bail out a car my friends, not unless you drive it into the ocean.

gah, sorry, i'm feeling particularly grumpy at the moment probably due to my constant lack of sleep- and the fact that as hard as i try i am not a morning person and getting up at 430am sucks. i'm done venting for the moment.

anyways, the nice part about this rotation is that i get to live with my friend Lizz whom i do not see nearly enough of :)

so to get up to date-- 2 weekends ago keith and i as well as keith's friend suzie drove up on friday night to bemus point ny where i dropped them off at her family's 'camp' and continued on my merry way to visit some of my most favoritest people in the world linds and ryan in erie. saturday day was filled with hanging out, football, cooking, playing with abbie and spontaneously going to walmart at 7 o'clock at night to purchase a tent then drive to NY to go camping. keep in mind that Ryan wasn't particularly feeling well and is not a huge fan of sleeping in the outdoors--was such a good sport about going camping out in the middle of the woods. abbie was in her element with her battery operated tea lights which make her look like the dog version of madonna :) and sitting around a camp fire with a cold beer, roasting marshmallows and good friends seems to make everything in the world seem alright.

you couldn't tell too much when we got there on saturday night, but it's been cold enough in ny already that we were hitting the peak change for the leaves, below are some pictures from the camp. and i cannot believe i didn't get a single picture with lindsey and ryan!! grrr.

the camp--no bathroom

tent platforms-which keith fell off of

sorry about the scatterbrainedness of this post... :/
i'll try to keep a bit more updated on this--postings may be sparse though

a bit how i'm feeling right now...
"We are socially retarded. Four years of high school, four years of college, four years of med school. By the time we graduate we're in our late 20s and we've never done anything except go to school and think about science. Time stops. We're socially retarded... I'm that girl, who sits in the back of the class and eats her hair. And Meredith, she's 17 years old, we're all 17 years old. This is high school with scalpels, Finn."--grey's anatomy

lists and count downs

1. 1 more day of my family med rotation-which was awesome and i got an A :)
2. possibly more importantly 93 days til christmas! that's right i'm breaking out the christmas music, a little later this year than usual i know. hands down favorite christmas song
3. 1 more day until i go to erie and visit linds, ryan & abbie, colby and drew & sarah -- yay!
4. 3 more days until i move into lizz's appartment in philly and start my surgery rotation
5. 63 days until keith's 25th birthday and thanksgiving--which means that i have a mere 98 days until my own quarter life crisis
6. 38 days until halloween and the psu.vs michigan (boooo) football game
7. 619 days until graduation or 891,360 minutes in case you were wondering...whomp whomp

no idea why but i've always loved "To Do" lists and countdowns, there's something so very gratifying to me about being able to put a line through something that i've accomplished. and god knows that if i didn't write down all the things i was supposed to do i would never remember

some more pics from last weekend down the shore

saturday on the beach with some ominous looking clouds
the spring-release door for the detergent wasn't working so obviously they had to take off the entire dishwasher door in attempt to fix it--unfortunately to no avail

keith is pretty upset over bert's distress at unable to being able to find the correct puzzle piece
this picture only makes me feel slightly creepy for taking it...

life is good

my 4th rotation is almost through-- i can't even believe it--just 4 more days in reading and than off the surgery to get beat up and run through the wringer for 8 weeks of long hours, call, and lots and lots of pimping. can't wait :)

anywho. just through happenstance this past friday night all the stars aligned and deb, lauren, josh, keith and i were able to make it out to dinner and venture into dubC :) we ate at this thai restaurant called Jazmine which was just outside of the 'cool' part of town but was actually really neat and the food was excellent...for the most part. deb and i ended up ordering the exact same thing--i can never turn down pad thai (thank you kelly for introducing me to it years ago in charleston) that i'd want just a leettllleee bit spicy. that's all. those were in fact my exact words to out waiter. what came out however was so HOTT you couldn't even taste the flavor of the food. you had about a half a second to enjoy it before your mouth, face, nose and anything in the vicinity of the pad thai were literally melting off of your face. i'm not exagerating, it was hot. thank god i didn't accidentally rub my eyes. a little while after we get our food our waiter finally comes over to check on us and at this point i believe that i was sweating so much and my eyes were watering so badly even though both debbie and i had clearly given up on our dinners that he quickly offered to get us a new one. it was much better :)

saturday keith and i went down to chris' beach house on Long Beach Island and spent most of the rest of the weekend 6 steps from the ocean...go figure the ONE time we walk down into the water a giant wave comes up and soaks all of our stuff--thank you hurricane igor. however, the waves were awesome and it was totally worth it. more on that and pictures tomorrow.

i am so incredibly blessed to have friends in my life who i can not see for months, nothing more than the occasional text/phone call, and pick right back up where we left off. i honestly don't know what i'd do without them and am so lucky to have them.

p.s. ALL of the wallpaper is officially DOWN in my old room, many thanks to dad, keith and the wallpaper steamer i purchased at home depot--more to come on this little project later

take me home country roads

i started my family med rotation back in reading last week and i'm still loving it :) while living in the clinic is still slightly creepy i feel like i'm an old hack at it now since i'm not such a newbie and there are other people here learning the ropes.

this past weekend was wonderful- i had monday off and i don't think that i've ever fully appreciated the awesomeness that is labor day. than again, this is the first time i've never not had a summer either-let me tell you-it sucks. big time.

i spent part of the weekend in baltimore with keith where we went to my first state fair which was pretty neat. it was apparently the thing to do in maryland on saturday because the weather was absolutely perfect so everybody and their brother showed up.

i'm not complaining though, i saw lots of animals, oversized produce and ate funnel cake i was pretty content :) what made it even better was the fact that we went after the psu victory 44-14 against youngstown-i'm not saying that i'm proud of the fact that we pay teams to come be our doormats but i'm trying to hold on to the victory as long as possible in light of the almost certain slaughter that is going to happen come saturday in a little town called tuscaloosa.

sunday keith finally made it up to the family cabin in pipersville, pa and it was great to see everyone and catch up, it's been ages since i've been able to make it. there's nothing quite like the crick (yes that is spelled correctly) crisp air, campfires and a front porch that make you want to stay forever, especially now since there's a septic system and i no longer have to use the outhouse to go number two. good lord i used to be terrified to walk up the hill out of the back of the cabin beyond where the backlight reached, along the rock steps (that had no railing and always seemed to be just a bit too far apart) into the wooden outhouse where you were never quit sure if there was going to be a critter inside waiting to greet you or just the resident spiders. gotta love the country :)

Excessively large produce

the large pumpkin was over 700lbs

prize winning jam, or jelly or maybe it was preserves...who knows

rides :)
why wouldn't there be chainsaw woodworking??

Farm animals

mmm, bacon :) not gonna lie, probably wouldn't have been that upset if i knew that this is how wilbur ended up in charlotte's web

moo cows

loved this horse

apparently when horses get bored they like to naw off their doors, i like to think he was trying to make an escape for freedom

i'll post a few pictures from up the country when i get the chance but now i need to go to bed :)

onward and upward

er, or something like that, no so sure that upward really is a word but i don't seem to be getting the red squiggly line that yells at you for spelling so i'm going to go ahead and go with actual word.

we moved colin into kutztown on saturday morning and i must say that i was quite impressed with kutztown's campus and move in organization--granted since it was the 4th kid and we were only a bit over an hour away we decided that the check in time was merely a suggestion and that being 5 hours late was definitely a better call. kutztown even had tents from walmart, home depot and poster sales and plants set up out in their grass for things that kids would commonly forget or need--pretty smart of them i must say.

col was on the 2nd floor of deatrick hall and there were no people yelling at you to move your vehicle out of the way if your kid was not in sight or you were actively unloading. i'm pretty sure we left the pilot parked in front of his building for like 4 hours, no ticket, no nasty philadelphia airport like police screaming at you to take another loop, nothing. kutztown 1 philadelphia airport -1,000,000

regardless col's roommate parker seemed to be as much of a weirdo as he appeared to be on facebook when col contacted him, the kid analyzed his facebook page and left him a message about what he thought--like all the things that you might think about someone you're facestalking but are clearly inappropriate to say, much less type in a public domain. we're going to have to see how this works out...

after eating at a place called snuzzle's (i shit you not) which had surprisingly decent food, we left colin to fend for himself in the world of kutztown and college life. mom handled it shockingly well ( i'm proud of you mom) but than again i was in a separate car on the ride home but i'm giving you the benefit of the doubt :)

text col sent to jason about 130am sunday morning 'college life is awesome'
i think he'll adjust rather quickly
